Hello amazing readers! I know, it's been ages since I even looked at this website. All I can say is I've been through some... challenges... more on that in a moment. So, here's what's new:
I almost died from heart issues then stage 3B Cancer
Yep, I got royally sick and it took me about two years to recover. "But its bloody well 2025 isn't it?!" I hear you say. I was writing - just not really focusing on anything to ever be published because I didn't know if I'd be around for much longer. So, fast forward to 2024 and I decided to pen the memoirs of my Cancer experience. You can read them right now in my...
New Substack launched
I started the Substack R.A. Fernandez Writes - as stated above, I didn't really know if I'd survive long enough to get anything published, so publishing direct to this platform seemed the easiest way of reaching an audience. In there I published my memoirs as a cancer patient named Cancer and the Meaning of Life, the struggles within and without, and the perspective that a heart condition and Cancer have given me, plus all the weird and wonderful things that occurred along the way. Trust me, they're out there.
I hit the one year anniversary of that publication, and really the two year mark of still being in this earthly realm. So, progress!
Leo Jaeger Private Investigator
Leo Jaeger PI was born recently. Really I just love the idea of the fish out of water, and the foolish but heroic jump into something completely new and unknown. You can catch Leo in the first entry once again on my Substack: Leo Jaeger PI - The Library At The End Of The Universe.
Aurelian Fables - progress
The epic fantasy of Aurelian Fables is still getting worked on. It's hard to believe I started The Knights of Naught, and The Return of the Shadow more than five years ago now, but as mentioned above, I'm really excited to revisit the amazing characters and get lost in that land of Magick (yes, with a k!), heroes, heroines, fantastical creatures and unique characters. I've grown to really love some of them so it'll be really difficult when I finally have to edit for submissions. You can read the loglines of these projects and their progress in the Aurelian Fables section of the website.
Script for TV Pilot Super Sleuth hits overall top 25% on Coverfly
My TV script for a reboot of "Get Smart like" spy spoof made it to an overall ranking of top 25% on Coverfly. That's not an easy thing to do, too bad Coverfly is closing though eh? Oh well. If you know of any producers who want to create something genuinely hilarious, then send them my way.
AI is everywhere - including AI "authors" Soon we wont know what is real and what is AI drivel
Uh huh, well - I've not hid my views on this. I do not consider any person using AI to write as writing anything. Best they're doing is editing what AI has likely plagiarized from someone else's work.
I think using AI for research is not a bad thing, you can't get past it anyway these days - so long as you check the source material. It can also be useful as a spell checker or thesaurus. I also hope that AI will make a lot of mundane tasks easier for us, but that's for another entry. But really, that's about it.
If you're using prompts and watching the machine spit out hundreds of lines of words that you then claim as your own after a light edit, well - you're lying to yourself.
While you're checking out my Substack, I encourage you to go to Ted Gioia's Substack and read his excellent exposition on the subject - how our shared reality will self-destruct in the next 12 months because we won't be able to trust photos, videos or text as coming from a real person.
One last thought
I've gained a new perspective in life - that being present is a real gift, regardless of circumstance. At the dawn of this strange new era, chasing what you're passionate about is really living, be obsessed by it - live in the flow state as much as you can, even when everyone tells you its stupid, or you wont make any money, or AI will somehow make you obsolete. As Leo Jaeger would say: "F*ck all that and do it anyway."
That's it for now. I hope you're chasing your dreams and getting into all kinds of mischief in your adventures! Until next time.
R.A. Fernandez.
